Preparing for Your Revision Facelift

Preparing for revision facelift surgery is just as crucial as aftercare, if not more so. Dr. Meade may request several things of you so that the very best results can be achieved that you may enjoy for years to come.

These requests will likely include the following:

  • Further medical examinations and laboratory tests
  • Adjusting or avoiding particular drugs and supplements
  • Avoiding smoking, drinking alcohol, and use of drugs
  • Staying well-hydrated

The Revision Facelift Procedure

If you are dissatisfied with the results of your primary facelift, it’s generally recommended that you wait at least six months before attempting a revision—with a full year being an even better option. The reason for this is that the first facelift, in all of its aspects, really needs to settle into its placement.

The procedure will be completely patient dependent—as every situation will differ. You can rest assured that every aspect of your revision facelift surgery will be clarified at your initial consultation and subsequent meetings if necessary.

Recovery and Results

Recovery from a facelift is a little different for everyone, and this is especially true for those on the other side of a revision facelift. It's best to practice Dr. Meade's instructions as you did for the preparation phase to ensure the best results.

Typically, our patients experience only mild swelling and bruising. They're usually comfortable enough that they don't even finish a 40-pill prescription for pain. Other considerations include the following:

  • A drain may be inserted that will be removed the day after surgery
  • A regime of lymphatic massage needs to be followed for a few days
  • Avoid vigorous activity for 2 to 3 weeks
  • It's best to use button-up shirts and tops rather than pull-over types

Though there are many differences with a revision facelift, you should be able to see the results you've been looking for rather rapidly as the swelling subsides. As long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle and take care when in the sun, you should be able to enjoy the results for anywhere from 7 to 10 years.
